Switching to Natural Deodorant: Everything you need to know!

Making the switch to natural deodorant can be a daunting process, but its definitely worth sticking with and your body will thank you in the long run! If you're considering saying goodbye to your antiperspirant and embracing a more natural approach, here's what you should know first.
Antiperspirant and deodorant are not the same thing.
Antiperspirant stops your body from sweating, whereas deodorant allows the body to sweat and neutralises any body odour. Aluminium is the key ingredient in antiperspirant, it works by plugging the sweat glands. One of the main concerns surrounding the use of aluminium in deodorant is the links to breast cancer and other health conditions. By using a deodorant, it allows the body to sweat which is one of the ways we eliminate waste from our body. It's important to remember that sweat doesn't smell, body odour occurs when bacteria on the skin mixes with sweat. Natural deodorants contain antibacterial ingredients to prevent this odour from happening.
You might feel more 'smelly' than usual when you first switch.
This is because of something called the 'transition period'! When you first ditch the antiperspirant, your body starts to detox everything that the aluminium 'plug' has been blocking. You'll likely find yourself sweating much more than usual as your body is working to get rid of the aluminium and everything else that has been blocked. So, try not to get disheartened if you feel like the natural deodorant isn't working, it just tales some time (for some people it can take up to a month, for others its a much shorter process). You can apply clay based masks and wash with charcoal soaps to help speed up the detox process.
You'll sweat, but you won't smell!
Even though you'll now sweat after saying goodbye to aluminium, natural deodorants generally contain moisture absorbing ingredients like arrowroot powder, bamboo powder and bicarbonate of soda which help absorb sweat and keep you feeling fresh. To prevent any smell, natural deodorants use coconut oil and essential oils which are antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti fungal.

What our customers say
"I love this deodorant, would never go back to sprays or roll ons"
"I am now on my third tin of the Three Hills Deodorant Cream and I will never go back to regular deodorant! Each one smells amazing, lasts really well and is so easy to apply! Love them"
"I was very unsure about a deodorant cream, but it is by far my favourite switch I've made to more sustainable cruelty/plastic free products!! I have psoriasis particularly on my underarms and sweat/spray deodorants would always irritate it. This cream is so soothing, fresh and lasts a long time. My skin has calmed down a lot since switching to this!! Highly recommend giving it a try"
